Body found in River Avon during search for missing student aged 19

Police hunting for a missing 19-year-old student have found a body.

Henry Burke was last seen leaving the Zero Zero nightclub in George Street, Bath, Somerset at midnight on Thursday.

Avon and Somerset Police said the body was found in the River Avon by members of the fire service and although formal identification had not yet taken place, Mr Burke's family had been told.

"At this stage, the death is being treated as unexplained. Our inquiries are continuing," a force spokesman said.

Earlier, Em Comley, Mr Burke's girlfriend, appealed for help in finding the Bath Spa University geography student.

"I doubt this will work, but for anybody that knows my boyfriend Henry Burke and I personally," she wrote on Facebook.

"Henry has gone missing. He was out clubbing in Bath last night in a club called 'Zero Zero' and was last heard of and seen in the club at around midnight.

"He didn't return home that night and he hasn't been seen/heard from anybody since. His phone is dead. Police are now involved and doing everything we can.

"It's unlikely but if anybody knows anything then please please please let us know ASAP. I've never been so completely terrified and utterly desperate in my entire life."

In recent years, several people have died in the River Avon, including Christopher Taylor, 21, and students Sammuel Amin, 18, and James Bubear, 19, and there have been calls for improved safety measures.
