Woman faces trial after Medway Secure Training Centre probe

A woman will stand trial after being charged by detectives investigating allegations of abuse and mistreatment of youngsters at a youth jail.

Rebecca Harold, 24, was charged with common assault in July following an undercover BBC Panorama investigation into Medway Secure Training Centre (STC) in Rochester, Kent.

At Medway Magistrates' Court in August, Harold pleaded not guilty to the alleged offence, which is alleged to have taken place against a 15-year-old boy at the STC on April 3.

The court heard that her case followed the Panorama programme, which in January aired behind-the-scenes footage taken at the then G4S-run facility for inmates aged 12 to 17.

Harold, of Grecian Street, Maidstone, is on bail and will stand trial at the same court.

The Government announced in the wake of the Panorama programme that it would take over the running of the facility through the National Offender Management Service.
