Teen detained for child abduction

A kidnapper who stole a car with two children inside, before abandoning one of them on a doorstep, has been sentenced to two years' detention.

Martin Cawley, 19, was high on drugs when he got into a parked car and drove off during the incident in north London on July 2. He took the vehicle after the children's mother went into a shop.

A 12-year-old girl managed to escape by jumping out of the car shortly after Cawley drove off. An 11-month-old boy was later found, uninjured, on the doorstep of a house in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire.

The car was later discovered dumped nearby.

Cawley, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty at Wood Green Crown Court to kidnap, child abduction and aggravated vehicle taking.
