The bank holiday might be nearly over, but the sunshine will continue

No need to put away your barbecues, because the hot weather is set to continue this week. Don't trust us? Well listen to the bookies then, because they're putting bets on it.

Ladbrokes are 2/1 that temperatures of 30C will be recorded before Sunday, while Coral have slashed the odds to 7/4 on August being the hottest on record.

Now that's something we'd like to bet on.

Met Office forecaster Chris Page said: "We've had a brilliant bank holiday - lots of sunshine around, or decent sunny spells at least for a large chunk of the country. In fact in places we've seen wall to wall sunshine as well which has been really quite welcomed so a fine weekend.

"Really the general story for this week is actually quite a fine and settled week across the country."

Page says that whilst there might be spells of light rain for the north and west, it will be largely dry and warm: "not a bad week at all in prospect."

Take advantage of the warm weather while you can, because Hurricane Gaston is heading towards the UK. Its exact track is not yet known, but we can't deny that its name makes us think of a French waiter.

Regardless of what you think of its name, Gaston will bring changeable conditions with wet and windy weather. That sounds more like the UK that we know and, err, love.
