Man arrested over 'race attack' on Turkish woman

A man has been arrested in connection with a racially-motivated attack on a Turkish woman.

Dorset Police said the man approached the victim, who was in her 20s, and made a religious comment to her before punching her in the face.

The victim suffered bruising to her head but did not require medical treatment after the incident, which happened in the Charminster area of Bournemouth at around 2.20am on Saturday.

A passer-by came to the victim's aid and took her to a nearby bar to alert the police.

Dorset Police said a 55-year-old Bournemouth man was arrested on Sunday night on suspicion of racially or religiously aggravated assault. He remains in police custody.

"Officers will be carrying out high-visibility patrols in the area to reassure the community and can be contacted with any concerns," a force spokesman added.
