Limping Larry the cat treated by vet amid 'fracas' with rival Palmerston

Larry the Downing Street cat has been treated by a vet after being spotted limping, a Number 10 spokesman has announced.

Don't worry though - the spokesman said that the Prime Minister's chief mouser was expected to make a full recovery after developing the limp in his front right paw.

But he was unable to say whether the injury was suffered in a scrap with Palmerston, the Foreign Office cat.

MPs were told that the two top cats in Whitehall have ceased hostilities after a recent "fracas".

Commons Leader David Lidington used his business statement in the Commons to update the House on the pair's relationship in the days since Theresa May and Boris Johnson took to their new offices.

"I have to say, I saw some reports in the media that (Larry) had been involved in a fracas with the Foreign Office cat, but I hope that they have now established a modus vivendi," he said.

Well, people seem to be taking sides on Twitter anyway...

The former Foreign Office minister added that he can "completely reassure" MPs about the Prime Minister's good intentions towards Larry, who stayed on at Number 10 after David Cameron departed.

And, in case you were wondering, the Downing Street spokesman said that the cost of Larry's treatment was covered by donations from Number 10 staff.
