Voters have taken to Twitter to thank MPs for their work in a rare show of solidarity with elected officials following the death of Jo Cox, MP for Batley and Spen.
Cox was shot and stabbed in the street outside the local library in Birstall, West Yorkshire, following a constituency surgery yesterday afternoon.
In the hours following the news of her death, #thankyourMP began trending UK-wide and Twitter was awash with messages of love and support for MPs across the UK. The public also expressed shock and grief over the loss of Jo Cox.
We take a look at the heartfelt messages and how MPs responded.
It's been a time to reflect on the work MPs do for us
I meet a lot of MP's, often without their 'game face' on, but I've yet to meet one that isn't in politics for the right reasons #ThankYourMP

If you've worked with MPs you'll know just how many go into a thankless job for the right reason - to help people. #thankyourmp
