Security checks on British Airways flight after landing in New Jersey

Updated

A security alert has been launched after a threat was made about a British Airways flight from London which has landed in New Jersey.

The flight, carrying 206 passengers and 13 crew, arrived at Newark Liberty International Airport at around 1pm.

Airport police, who said they had received an unspecified threat about a flight, moved the aircraft to a remote section of the airport and it is surrounded by police and emergency crews.

A BA spokesman said: "The aircraft has landed normally. Security checks will carried out as a precaution.

"We do not discuss details of operational security. The safety and security of our customers and crew is our number one priority."

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police spokesman Joe Pentangelo said passengers' hand luggage and checked-in baggage would be rescreened as a precaution.
