Emergency services in Dorset have rescued a teenager who found himself trapped in quicksand near Weymouth.

The teenage boy, who has not been named, became stuck at the Fleet Lagoon at Pirate's Cove between Wyke Regis and Chesil Beach.

According to the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service, he had strayed off the footpath around the tidal lagoon on Saturday morning.

Rescuers were already nearby as they were assisting a girl who had fallen from a horse, and took 15 minutes to pull him from the mud. He was able to walk on his own accord, and was soon released by the ambulance service.

Speaking to the Dorset Echo, Wyke Coastguard station commander warned that the area was well known for its dangers: "There is soft mud around and just be aware of your surroundings. If you get into issues, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard."

Fleet Lagoon is popular locally as a spot for fishing and walking.
