Two more suicide car bombings in Baghdad bring day's death toll to 88


Two further car bombs have been detonated in Iraq's capital Baghdad bringing the day's total death to 88, Iraqi police and hospital officials have said.

More than 25 people were killed and 56 wounded in the attacks which followed a car bombing earlier on Wednesday.

A suicide car bomb targeting a police station in Baghdad's north-west Kadhimiyah neighbourhood killed 18, including five policemen. The attack also wounded 34.

In northern Baghdad a suicide car bomb in the neighbourhood of Jamiya killed seven and wounded 22.

The first car bombing of the day was in an outdoor market in Sadr City and killed at least 63 people.

Islamic State claimed responsibility for the first attack in an online statement.
