A new police chief has been hailed as Britain's sexiest officer after catching the eye of women nationwide.
Devon and Cornwall Police broke the news of Chief Superintendent Jim Colwell's promotion on Facebook, and were pretty soon inundated with complimentary comments.
His photo has attracted more than 1,400 likes and prompted over 300 comments, most of which praise Colwell on his looks rather than his recent achievement.
"Appears there might be a spike in criminal women activity in the area," one user wrote while others plotted elaborate schemes to encounter the superintendent.
Despite a flood of flirty comments however, others praised Colwell's professionalism.
"A professional officer and a gent. A senior officer who made the effort to personally come and say goodbye to me when I retired," a user wrote.
Another added: "I recall working on AIT at charlies with Jim in 2002 and his professionalism was an example to many. Well done Jim great effort."
Colwell, a Leicester University graduate, joined Devon and Cornwall Police in 2001 before rising through the ranks to become one of its key investigating officers.
A force spokeswoman said: "He is known for his thorough investigative skills and for leading investigations into high profile cases such as a fatal speedboat incident in Padstow, as well as co-ordinating the initial response to numerous major incidents including homicides and kidnaps across the force."
The force said it was "aware" of the Facebook comments about Colwell.
