Australian MP sets fire to a river to show effects of fracking

Fracking is a hot topic in Australia - just like it is on this side of the world.

Queensland residents say the process of extracting coal seam gas near the Condamine River has caused methane to bubble up through the water - so Greens MP Jeremy Buckingham went to investigate.

You can see what happened in this video.

Buckingham said: "I was shocked by the force of the explosion when I tested whether gas boiling through the Condamine River, Queensland was flammable.

"So much gas is bubbling through the river that it held a huge flame for over an hour."
