Nominee Alicia Vikander wows on Oscars red carpet


Nominee Alicia Vikander has opted for a pale yellow embellished Louis Vuitton gown for her arrival on the red carpet at the 88th Academy Awards.

The Swedish star is nominated for best supporting actress for her role as artist Gerda Wegender in The Danish Girl.

Sam Smith, who is nominated for best original song for Writing's On The Wall from Spectre, arrived with his songwriting partner Jimmy Napes and sipped English tea with E! host Ryan Seacrest as he chatted on the red carpet.

Comedian Mindy Kaling, who voiced Disgust in Inside Out, which is nominated for best animated movie, opted for a strapless Elizabeth Kennedy black gown with a blue train.

Room star Jacob Tremblay, nine, arrived in a dark tuxedo after sharing a photo on Instagram of him lounging on the back seat of a car on his way to the ceremony.

Asked about his perspective on the Oscars, he said: "I just see lots of legs."

The boy has been a fixture on the red carpet at awards ceremonies this year after his performance in the film, which is nominated for best picture.

His co-star Brie Larson, who played his mother, is widely tipped to take home the best actress gong while Lenny Abrahamson will compete for best director.

Actress Olivia Wilde, who arrived with her husband Jason Sudeikis, opted for a cream gown with a plunging neckline and a diamond choker.

Oscar winner Whoopi Goldberg, who took home a statue in 1991, chose a black off-the-shoulder gown, while Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley, who is presenting at the ceremony, picked a silver embellished dress.

Best actor nominee Eddie Redmayne arrived in a black velvet tuxedo jacket with his pregnant wife Hannah Bagshawe, who wore a black dress with a bold jewelled neckline.

Best actress nominee Saoirse Ronan chose a shiny green gown, while Game Of Thrones star Sophie Turner opted for a champagne-coloured dress.

Patricia Arquette, who took home the best supporting actress statue last year for Boyhood, arrived in a navy blue column dress.

Modern Family star Sofia Vergara also opted for dark blue, choosing a Marchesa gown, while Quantico star Priyanka Chopra, who is presenting at the ceremony, chose a strapless white lace dress from Zuhair Murad.

Ronan, who opted for Calvin Klein Collection with Chopard jewellery, was nominated for best supporting actress for Atonement in 2007.

She said: "I feel really comfortable, I feel like I'm in my sweats but a beautiful sequinned version of it.

"I was here about 10 years ago and it was the first awards show I had ever been to which is mad."

Ronan told ABC: "I wore green at my first Oscars as well. I wanted to wear green because I'm very proud to be Irish and Calvin Klein made this for me."

Brie Larson arrived in a royal blue gown with a ruffled skirt and jewelled waistband while her fellow nominee Charlotte Rampling, who is nominated for 45 Years, dressed in a sequinned monochrome gown with red earrings.

Larson told ABC: "I feel relaxed and zen, maybe it's because I'm jet-lagged. I flew in from Vietnam so I feel like I'm in another place but this is a childhood dream, I can't believe I'm here."

Rooney Mara, who is nominated for her supporting role in Carol, arrived on the red carpet with her father in a white lace gown with a panel cut out on her midriff.
