Tube line closed after 'hole is drilled in tunnel ceiling'

Updated

A London Underground line has temporarily closed after a hole was reportedly drilled in a tunnel ceiling.

The Central Line was shut between Marble Arch and White City stations for "emergency engineering work" after concrete masonry fell on the line, Transport for London said.

Peter McNaught, TfL's operations director, said: "I apologise to customers affected by delays on the Central line this evening, this is due to an obstruction on the track in the Shepherds Bush area. We are working hard to resolve the problem as soon as possible."

The work led to severe delays on the rest of the line, with buses shuttling passengers between the two stations.

TfL said it was investigating the cause of the hole.
