Charles to meet Welsh stars at Palace gala concert

The Prince of Wales will meet Welsh stars of stage and screen when he hosts a gala concert for the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama at Buckingham Palace.

Among the invited guests are Dame Shirley Bassey, actor Michael Sheen, actress Ruth Jones and singer Bryn Terfel.

The concert will feature music and acting from the college's students including extracts from Henry V and the opera Tosca and a performance of the Welsh lullaby Suo Gan.

Charlotte Kwok, a nine-year-old pianist being taught by the college, will play Frank Bridge's The Prince.

In his role as patron, Charles will thank the college's supporters as 2016 marks the fifth anniversary of the college's new rehearsal and performance facilities.

Former students of the Cardiff college include comedian Rob Brydon, actor Sir Anthony Hopkins and the late screen and stage star Victor Spinetti.

In 2013, Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall used their visit to the college to launch a scholarship appeal.
