A man has been charged after a 12-year-old girl was raped at knifepoint by someone claiming to be a police officer.

Apedelrazak Badram, 32, will appear in court accused of three sexual offences and two counts of impersonating a police officer, Scotland Yard said.

He is also charged with false imprisonment, two counts of breaching a sexual offences prevention order; possession of class B drugs and theft, the force added.

Detectives launched an investigation after a 12-year-old girl was raped by a man pretending to be a police officer in Sandhurst Road, Edmonton, north London on Wednesday.

The incident was linked to a second assault on another 12-year-old girl, who managed to escape, in nearby Shirley Grove an hour earlier.

Badram, of Enfield, north London, will appear in custody at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on Saturday.
