Seven in hospital after double-decker bus and smart car crash

Seven people are being treated in hospital after a double-decker bus was in a crash with a smart car and mounted the kerb.

Emergency crews declared a "significant incident" following the accident, which happened at about 7.35am in London Road, Enfield, north London.

The woman driver of the car was taken to hospital "as a priority" with chest injuries, while a male passenger on the bus is being treated for neck pain, London Ambulance Service said.

Seven other people were treated at the scene for less serious injuries, including five who were taken to hospital.

Images posted online showed the badly-mangled wreckage of the car in the road and the W8 bus - which was on its way to Chase Farm Hospital - on the pavement.

London Ambulance Service said it had cleared a "significant incident" and sent four ambulances, a paramedic in a fast response case and its hazardous area response team

Part of the road was closed following the crash close to the junction with Cecil Road. Police and London Fire Brigade were also at the scene.

London Ambulance Service's deputy director of operations Kevin Brown said: "We treated a number of patients including a woman with chest injuries who was taken as a priority to hospital.

"A man was treated for neck pain and also taken to hospital. A further seven patients were treated at the scene for less serious injuries such as cuts and bruises and five were taken to hospital.
