Jihadist convicted of plotting Remembrance Day attack

A jihadist who was inspired by an Islamic State fatwa to plot a Lee Rigby-style terrorist attack around Remembrance Day has been found guilty of planning an act of terror, it can now be reported.

Nadir Syed, 22, had planned to launch the attack after listening to a speech by IS spokesman Abu Muhammad al-Adnani, which also urged extremists to target France.

Dressed in a burgundy sweatshirt and wearing an Islamic skull cap he showed no reaction as he was convicted on Wednesday, December 9, of preparation of terrorist acts after 50 hours and 56 minutes of jury deliberations.

Jurors were unable to reach verdicts in the case of Yousaf Syed, 20, and Haseeb Hamayoon, 29.

Yousaf Syed from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, and Hamayoon from Hayes, west London, denied planning acts of terrorism. The judge has ordered a retrial.
