Heartbroken loved ones of a hero policeman have laid flowers at the scene where he was murdered while trying to stop burglars in a stolen car.

Pc Dave Phillips, 34, was described as a "my super daddy" by his two young daughters, and his wife's tribute read "You are my everything."

Tearful widow Jennifer Phillips, 28, carried their three-year-old daughter Sophie and clutched the hand of Abigail, aged seven, as each placed floral tributes at the scene alongside dozens already left by well-wishers.

Surrounded by the officer's parents, sisters and other close relatives, his young family spent 20 minutes looking at the messages of support left with flowers by friends, colleagues and members of the public at the scene in Wallasey, Merseyside, where Pc Phillips was mown down and killed on Monday.

Two men are under arrest on suspicion of murder.

Today his wife left a bouquet of while lilies, with the message: "Dave, my poo Bear!

"I can't believe you've been taken away from me, you are my everything and have no idea how I am going to carry on with you not by my side.

"I love you with every inch of my heart and will miss you so so much, Your Mrs XXXXX."

Tearful Abigail clutched her mother's hand and, red-eyed, was comforted with hugs and kisses.

Her own floral tribute was accompanied by a hand-written note, reading: " "Daddy, I love you so much, you are the best daddy in the whole wide world, you are my hero! I will miss you. XXX Love Abigail XXXXX."

Sophie left a message for her father alongside the flowers, which read: "Daddy, my hero, my super daddy, my world. I love you so much. I will miss our cuddles, tickles, giggles and smiles. I love you lots and lots. Your little princess Sophie x x x x x."
