Photo of Officer and Convict Reunited Goes Viral
A photo of a North Carolina police officer alongside a man who just a year ago tried to stab him has gone viral.

Raleigh officer JD Boyd shared a picture on Facebook with Cory Sanders that showed both of them grinning with their arms on each other's shoulders.

In the post, which has received 180,000 likes, Boyd wrote: "Almost a year ago this man and I were involved in a major altercation where he tried to stab me in the head and I nearly shot him.

"Today we ran into each other again and I learned that after his time in prison and some help from probation he now has a full time job." Boyd also shared the news that Sanders was expecting another son before Christmas.

He added: "I was glad it ended well for us both that day, and I am ecstatic now to learn that he has turned his life around and we can embrace as friends."

Girlfriend grateful

The photo was spotted by Sanders' girlfriend, who thanked the officer for his actions that day and said she was grateful to have met him.

"Thank you so much officer Boyd for everything you did for me and my boyfriend that day," wrote Kendra Powell.

Boyd had been on patrol the night of October 25, 2014 when he tried to stop a domestic disturbance between the man and his girlfriend, reports the Daily Mail.

The officer received a distinguished service medal from the Raleigh Police Department for not only protecting his victim's life that night, but for also showing consideration for the life of the suspect.
