Over 150 passengers rescued as ferry catches fire

Dramatic rescue from stricken liner

Ferry on Fire in Mediterranean Has 156 Passengers Rescued

This footage uploaded to social media shows a ferry burning on its journey between Mallorca and Valencia on Tuesday.

The ferry carrying 156 passengers was captured on camera ablaze by a transport worker from another ferry close by.

Dark smoke can be seen pouring from the windows and flames are visible at the centre of the boat.

Emergency services have rescued all the passengers. Evacuation took place about an hour after the boat left Mallorca.

The operator of the ferry said in a statement that the cause of the fire has yet to be established.

Although the captain did not initially want to evacuate the passengers, all on board including the ferry's crew left the stricken liner in life boats.
