In 2017 we have two property dreams. The first (and most common) is the lottery-winning one, where we dream of being able to afford a mansion with every imaginable luxury. The other dream is that we stumble across a bargain, where we can afford to live well, without breaking the bank. The list of the ten most popular properties so far in 2017 is made up of stacks of both.

Ninth place is the other kind of dream, where for £1,395,000 you can snap up a modern detached property, complete with six bedrooms, five bathrooms, a cinema room, and acres of shiny white newness in Beeston.

8. Four-bedroom family home
In eighth place we're back to the dream of an affordable family home. For £169,000 you get a home that's newly renovated and in beautiful condition. It's also detached and at the end of the cul de sac. The property itself is in Irvine.

7. Multi-million pound pad
It's back to the lottery winners for number seven. with this seven-bedroom mansion in Richmond upon Thames, for £3,395,000. The Georgian-Style property is tucked away on a cul de sac on an exclusive development, and offers plenty of space. The buyers, however, will have to share the previous owner's distinctive tastes (especially when it comes to the use of marble in the bathroom), or save some cash for redecorating.

This immaculately presented Victorian cottage is being marketed as 'price on application', which usually means an impressively hefty cost. It's easy to see why, as the building is stunning and stylish, and it comes with an enormous amount of land - which the seller suggests would be good for equestrians. 2. A luxury, period property, for less than you think
Second on the list seems to offer a bit of the best of both worlds.
