A dog has traded his bone for a paint brush and he's barking up a storm in the art scene.

Dagger, a three-year-old Labrador mix from Long Island, sets his paws on paintings using a toilet roll and a brush to colour the canvas with non-toxic paints.

Dagger is really nicknamed 'Dog Vinci' even though his work is a little more abstract than the great artist!

The painting pooch started out as a canine companion but dropped out and his owner Yvonne Dagger, thought her pet might be better suited to being an artist like she is.

Dagger's early works sold for about $50 but his newer work is commissioned at a pricey $200.

The good news for dog lovers is that all the proceeds of Dagger's works of art are put towards canine causes.

Dagger even has his own Facebook page and he has even amassed more than 800 fans so far.

Yvonne told Mashable: "Some of Dagger's works are very abstract and some seem to have hidden images in them. It's very interesting."

Yvonne said that she originally came up with the idea of getting Dagger to paint when she realised that he often came into her studio to sit beside her as she created her own art, after a while she decided to let him try for himself and it looks like it was a success!
