Charlie Sheen says he can't afford child support
Just two weeks after asking to cut the payments he makes to one ex-partner, Charlie Sheen wants to do the same to another.
The fifty-year-old star of Wall Steret, Platoon and Two and a Half Men has asked a court to decrease the amount he gives ex-wife Denise Richards, with whom he has daughters Lola Rose, ten, and Sam, aged 12.
He recently dropped financial support for his earlier partner, Brooke Mueller, with whom he has six-year-old twin boys Bob and Max.
According to showbiz site TMZ, Sheen has been paying $55,000 a month to Richards since 2009. But he can't afford this any more, he says, as his income has 'drastically declined'.
While he had been earning $613,000 a month from his share of profits on Two and a Half Men, he says he recently had to sell those rights for a lump sum of $26,750,000.
He says he now averages just $87,384 a month - and only made $6,261 in February. His own expenses, meanwhile, come to $105,000, he says. On top of this, Sheen claims he owes over $1 million in legal fees and about $600,000 in credit card debt.
Meanwhile, the star is paying $25,000 a month for healthcare which isn't covered by insurance, and says he paid $10 million to blackmailers who threatened to expose his HIV-positive status.
Sheen hasn't disclosed why he cut his income so drastically by selling his rights in Two and a Half Men. But, he says, Richards and the children should be grateful for what he's paid in the past.
"At some point you just can't justify it, especially when there's no gratitude behind it. None," he told Dr Mehmet Oz on The Dr. Oz Show last month. "I would send somebody flowers every hour if I got that kind of dough tax free."
