A giant sink hole measuring 66ft (20m) in diameter has opened up on a street in St Albans.

The huge crater, which spreads across the driveway and front garden of a house on Fontmell Close, emerged overnight.

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was made aware of a small hole on Wednesday and it was due to be filled in, but it then received a call at 1.30am to say it had "opened up substantially" overnight.

Here's a picture of the 33ft (10m) deep hole.

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said at least 10 people have been evacuated to Batchwood Leisure Centre, and more than 50 properties are without gas and electricity.

Twitter users appeared concerned by the vast hole.

Well some did.
