Danish restaurant Noma has regained its title as the world's best restaurant, knocking last year's winner, Spain's El Celler de Can Roca into second spot.
The fine dining establishment, which is renowned for its beautifully-plated food and locally-foraged ingredients, was praised by organisers for its "meticulous attention to detail, innovative approach to foraging and experimentation with fermentation".
According to The Guardian, chef and owner Rene Redzepi said: "We didn't expect it at all, we though we had had our moment on this list. I know that for the team, this is the biggest moment."
He added: "We came in here expecting nothing. The newspapers said Noma is over. We have a moment that is mind-boggling."
El Celler de Can Roca, meanwhile, took second place, and is one of seven Spanish restaurants to make the top 50, including Mugaritz and Arzak, both based in San Sebastian and both of which made the top ten, at sixth and eight place respectively.
Massimo Bottura's Osteria Francescana, in Modena, Italy, held firm at number three, while Eleven Madison Park in New York took fourth place, and Heston Blumenthal's Dinner climbed two places to complete the top five. Alinea in Chicago made ninth place, while London restaurant, The Ledbury, was also given a boost, rising three places to number ten.
In total, the USA, Spain and France all boasted seven restaurants in the top 50, but elsewhere, Sao Paulo's DOM took the number seven spot, with chef Alex Atala taking home the Chef's Choice Award, and the highest climber gong went to Central in Lima, which gained an impressive 35 places to land in 15th spot. Seven Asian restaurants were also ranked in the top 50 in the Restaurant magazine awards, with Nahm in Bangkok at number 13, and Gaggan, also in Bangkok landing at number 17.
