London has been voted the UK's number one tourist destination in this year's annual TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice awards, pipping Edinburgh and Torquay to the top spot.

With a wealth of attractions, culture and history to offer, England's capital not only topped the poll of UK destinations, but took third place in Europe behind Istanbul and Rome, and also landed third place in the world.

Among the cities to make the top 10 UK destinations were Liverpool, Belfast, York, Bristol, Leeds and Birmingham, while the towns of Torquay and Llandudno were the only seaside spots to make the list at third and eighth place respectively.

Industry experts put London's lofty position down to a host of factors, including the recent 2012 Olympics and the birth of Prince George.

'During the last year we've seen record numbers of visitors to the capital, who have enjoyed everything our great city has to offer."
