After a winter to forget, the first signs of spring will perk many Brits up, and women up and down the country will be scouring the high street for new wardrobe items, and the beauty products to match.

For all you budding fashionistas out there, here are some of the hot beauty trends to follow this spring.

The future's orange
Hot pink has been a liptastic trend of late, but this spring orange is taking centre stage. Bright orange lips and nails were seen on catwalks from Rag & Bone to Christian Siriano. The key is to go matte and as bright as you dare, so try MAC's Morange (£15) or Maybelline's Electric Orange (£7.19) from the New York Vivid Colours range for maximum impact.

Spring blues
Blue eyeshadow was a massive trend on the spring 2014 catwalks, but put any thoughts of the 1980s nightmare out of your mind. From intense cobalt eyes to powdery disco styles, blue turned out to be both sexy and stylish. Keep the rest of your makeup minimal and go bright and bold as per Marc by Marc Jacobs, with Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Colour in Ice, topped with a Curacao shade, or create a subtle brow-to-lash wash by mixing MAC Pro Chromacakes in Pure White and Hi-Def Cyan (£16.50). If you don't want to go the whole hog, try an electric blue eyeliner with lashings of mascara.

Purrfect eyes
Cat eyes are making a retro-style comeback this spring, but with a seriously sultry feel. Full-on black-rimmed peepers were on show at Derek Lam, Just Cavalli, Stella McCartney and Saint Laurent, and you can copy the trend with L'Oreal's Superliner (£5.49), which is super quick and smudge-proof for a thick, clean line, or smoke your eyes with Bourjois' Khol & Contour Eye Pencil (£4.99). With all eyes on yours, you can do with minimal lips and colour elsewhere.

Get the glow
The dewy glow of spring skin will be back once again this year, and unless you're blessed with a flawless complexion, you'll probably need a little help to get the look. Nars is the place to go for a beautiful, bare skin look, their Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser (£28) giving a translucent veil of colour while hydrating at the same time. Add their light-reflecting Copacabana Illuminator (£22) for a slight shimmer.
