The home products retailer trialled sales of the panels at its Lakeside store, and today the green gadgets will go on sale in Southampton ahead of a nationwide rollout over the course of the next 10 months.
Partnering with solar energy firm Hanergy, Ikea's solar panels will be in stores where customers can feel the equipment before deciding whether to pay the price for a more eco-friendly and energy efficient home.
According to the Daily Mail, the cost for a typical semi-detached house is around £5,700, but an in-store consultation, design service, and installation, maintenance and energy monitoring are all included in the price.
What's more, it is estimated those with an average three-bed semi could earn up to £768 a year by reducing their bills and being paid for the energy the panels generate.
Joanna Yarrow, Head of Sustainability at Ikea, told the Mail: "At Ikea we're excited to be able to help customers take positive actions at home for both the environment and their wallets."
