Go to a farm 'open day'
Feed the animals, collect eggs, help milk the cows and learn about conservation at a farm open day. Some farms offer free admission, while others charge but offer activities like pony riding and falconry. Pack a picnic (just remember to wash your hands after petting the animals), and a visit to the farm can offer a full day of fun at a reasonable price. Search online for farms near you.

Get active with Asda
The supermarket giant is helping kids get active with their Asda's Sporting Chance scheme. Simply collect vouchers to enjoy a free session of boxing, martial arts, swimming, basketball or even paintball, in your local area. Find out more at: www.asda-sportingchance.co.uk.

Dance yourself silly
Take advantage of any free taster sessions on offer at different dance and activity clubs. With locations around the country, 'Diddi Dance' will teach your little ones some funky dance moves – and they offer free taster sessions in the summer holiday. Get away for less
If you fancy getting away but don't want to splash the cash consider camping. Camp sites have come a long way in recent years and you might be surprised at some of the facilities on offer. If you don't have your own kit, look for second hand deals on eBay and the local paper, or see if you can borrow one from friends.

Haven Holiday parks have 23 sites around the British coastline, with facilities and activities for kids. Of course, for the cheapest deal you're better off searching for a small, basic site and making your own entertainment around the campfire.

If you need a bed to lay your head, consider youth hostelling. The Youth Hostel Association have many sites around the country and some offer family rooms at reasonable rates. For more information visit: www.yha.org.uk.

See a movie
If the weather turns, you can always catch a movie at the cinema. Thanks to some great deals, it needn't cost a small fortune. Cineworld and Vue cinemas offer discounts on family tickets (two adults plus two children) and are offering tickets for £1.00 on Saturday and Sunday 10am showings at selected cinemas. There's even pre-show entertainment for younger children before the main event.
