Sydney, Australia
You can see the New Year in with a bang, by seeing the most-watched firework display in the world at the Harbour. There are also party cruises so you can watch the overhead lights in style while sipping cocktails on board.

Edinburgh, Scotland

If it's one thing the Scots know how to do, it's seeing in the New Year with enthusiasm. Edinburgh has the biggest street party in Europe, and the celebrations don't just last one night. There are five days of processions and events, though tickets are needed for parts of it. Visit the Edinburgh Hogmanay website for full details.

Hong Kong
Another city with the focus on its quayside, Hong Kong's New Year celebrations focus on a firework display at its Victoria Harbour. This year, the authorities are increasing the firepower, so expect an even more spectacular display.
