Is plastic fantastic?

Updated

We pour scorn on celebs with obvious boob jobs and cringe and stare intrigued at permanent-expressioned botox fanatics, but just how many of us, if money were no object, would go under the knife?

I have to admit, there are times when I think that it would be nice to suck out some wobbly bits or sort out my nose, but there are many ways that surgery can go wrong and that puts me off. When you see the bodged surgeries that some celebs get, or that you see in the news, you have to wonder, is it worth it? Although, there are also many success stories where people have brilliant treatments and are made more confident and happy as a result. Does the idea of sculpting your body to your preferences appeal to you?

Not long ago, plastic surgery was limited to the rich and famous and only seen in abundance in Hollywood. These days, surgeries are becoming more affordable and more prevalent here in the UK. You might be surprised at the number of breast augmentations, liposuctions, rhinoplasties and face lifts that Brits undergo. Also, an increasing number of people take surgery holidays - flying to Brazil or the Philippines to get 3 in 1 treatments all for the same price it would cost back home. Perhaps in the near future, having cosmetic surgery will become the status quo. Maybe it will escalate out of control - there are already treatments for chopping bits of your foot bones out to shorten your feet, or breaking and then stretching your legs to make you taller. Do you think that complete self-confidence and happiness can be acheived by rebuilding your body or that vanity is not worth the price of self-mutilation?
