Today is the last day of the London Fashion Week which takes place at London's National History Museum. Top fashionistas from around the globe have been exhibiting their autumn/winter collections to buyers, press and celebrities in a whirl of red carpets, champagne and chic couture. Although most of the clothes that appear on the catwalk will probably not be found in Topshop or Marks & Spencer, and the show is really a trade event and not open to the public, the style ideas and trends will certainly filter down into the clothes in high street stores to be snapped up by you later this year.

For example, John Rocha's collection hit the catwalk on Saturday and his experimental style using different fabrics and techniques will no doubt be echoed in his range specially designed for Debenhams. In fact, there are many designers exhibiting their autumn/winter collections who also design collections for Debenhams such as Julien Macdonald, Betty Jackson and Jasper Conran. Paul Smith's collection was exhibited on Monday and no doubt his range will be appearing in his own stores across the country before long. You can also buy his clothes online, although you'll have to expect to pay a small fortune! Of course, the same is true of all the pieces created by these designers, but the ideas will be taken from the catwalk and reproduced at a more affordable level on the high street so that ordinary folks like you and me can look stylish this winter.

It's not only the clothes at the fashion week which will inspire trends for this autumn/winter season. Make up and hair styles are also closely examined and emulated. Artists such as Mac, Benefit and Toni & Guy work backstage at the fashion week and happily these brands can all be found on the humble high street so that you can recreate the styles of the show.

If you really want to get in on the action and even have the chance to buy some of those original pieces, the London Fashion Weekend takes place from the 4th to the 8th March. The event is open to the public, you can buy tickets online, and there you can buy accessories, jewellery and ready to wear items. Plus there is a catwalk show, makeovers, style advice and lots of other exciting things to see!
