Pixie Lott: Knock-backs early on gave me a thicker skin

Singer Pixie Lott has said "knock-backs" early on in her career have helped her to have a thicker skin as an adult.

Lott, 26, will next be seen on television as a coach on ITV's The Voice Kids alongside The Voice UK coach Will.i.am and McFly's Danny Jones.

She told Good Morning Britain that having to turn away the young auditionees who were not successful reminded her of her own experiences at a young age.

Talking to presenters Charlotte Hawkins and Ranvir Singh, she said: "They really just seem so happy to be there. It does really remind me of when I was the same age and I was doing exactly the same sort of things, and I do think it's amazing to have that sort of experience young because it eases you in.

"Now that I'm a little bit older, it's sort of like water off a duck's back, I've got a thicker skin, I've been through knock-backs and not got through to the next round, done loads of auditions and that stuff, and if I would have just experienced it for the first time as a 26-year-old I'd find it a lot harder.

"So I think it's a great thing to have experiences like that being young and knowing there are so many more opportunities ahead of you."

The Voice Kids will see solo singers aged between 7-14 hoping to win the grand prize, which has yet to be announced.

The Mama Do singer has just released a new single titled Baby, which has seen her team up with British DJ and producer Anton Powers.

Last year Lott was treading the boards on London's West End starring as the enigmatic Holly Golightly in Breakfast At Tiffany's, a part made famous on film by Audrey Hepburn.

She said: "I have this new-found respect for theatre actresses, I always thought (doing) pop was hard, but this is just like intense."

No date to air has yet been confirmed for The Voice Kids.
