Seven of the most memorable Argentine Tango routines in Strictly history

Updated:

Strictly Come Dancing's Louise Redknapp is set to dance the first Argentine Tango of the current series.

The popular routine is always eagerly awaited by Strictly fans and so here are seven of the most memorable efforts in the show's history.

1. Jay McGuiness and Aliona Vilani, 2015

Last year's eventual winners were the first to tackle the Argentine Tango in 2015 and Louise will be happy to follow in their footsteps if it means getting her hands on the Glitterball trophy.

Jay and Aliona picked up 34 points for their performance - the highest score of all three Argentine Tangos danced in series 13.

2. Simon Webbe and Kristina Rihanoff, 2014

The Blue singer and his partner made their mark in 2014 with their sizzling dance to El Tango De Roxanne from Moulin Rouge at Blackpool's Tower ballroom.

After finding himself in the dance-off a couple of times, Simon smouldered through his routine and found himself a hit with the judges, who scored him 38 out of 40, and the public, who kept him safe in week 8. He went one better when he revisited the dance in the final, scoring a perfect 40.

3. Jake Wood and Janette Manrara, 2014

This is more memorable for its bizarreness than a high score. EastEnders star Jake and partner Janette were one of the top couples during series 12 but failed to flatter with their week 10 effort.

The rather odd Greek-inspired plate-smashing Argentine Tango performed by Jake was labelled "a dance disaaahster" by Craig Revel Horwood. The pair collected 29 points.

4. Jason Donovan and Kristina Rihanoff, 2011

The former Neighbours star has been widely praised as pulling off the best Argentine Tango in history for this effort with Kristina.

Semi-final week saw them perform to the Assassin's Tango by John Powell, wowing the judges who gave them a perfect 40. The routine saw them into the final, where they took third place.

5. Harry Judd and Aliona Vilani, 2011

Eventual winner and McFly drummer Harry stormed to the top of the Strictly Come Dancing leaderboard with his sizzling Argentine Tango.

Harry - and Aliona who obviously has a knack for this dance - danced to Asi Se Baila El Tango from Take The Lead in week 7 and scored 37 points, with Craig Revel Horwood saying the performance "had filth and I loved it".

6. Kara Tointon and Artem Chigvintsev, 2010

Actress Kara was another Argentine Tango-er who picked up the Glitterball trophy.

Kara and Artem's blossoming real-life romance may have added a touch of sizzle to their effort in week 7 to Los Vino by Otros Aires, which scored a high 38 from the judges.

7. Rachel Stevens and Vincent Simone, 2008

The former pop singer showed off her talent in series six and eventually reached the show's final where she lost out to actor Tom Chambers.

Rachel's dramatic routine to Prince's When Doves Cry in the semi-final saw her receive a score of 39 from the judges.
