John Cleese: Donald Trump is a narcissist with no attention span

Veteran actor John Cleese labelled US presidential candidate Donald Trump as a "narcissist, with no attention span" as he described the "worst" political situation the world has ever seen.

The comedian, who stars as the voice of King Gristle in DreamWorks' latest feel-good animation Trolls, set to hit cinema screens on October 21, described himself as "cheerful and happy" thanks to his marriage to "lovely" Jennifer Wade.

But, on the subject of global politics, the 76-year-old said: "I'm more relaxed now but if I look at the world, I don't think it's ever been in a worse situation. I look at what's going on and there isn't much to be cheerful about.

"I look at Trump, and I see a narcissist, with no attention span, who doesn't have clear ideas about anything and makes it all up as he goes along."

Just making it up as he goes along, says John.

His feelings about the EU referendum, on the other hand, were more positive.

He said: "I don't think Brexit was a mistake, myself. I'm rather delighted that all these forecasts of absolute doom and destruction have turned out, at this point, not to have been real."

John also had warm words about Prime Minister Theresa May, describing her as "Margaret Thatcher with a sense of humour".
