Fashion hits and misses at the Toronto Film Festival

The Toronto International Film Festival will be chock full of premieres that are sure to give us a few fashion highs (and lows).

The cream of Hollywood is set to attend the event, running from September 8 to 18.

We look back at some of the sartorial highlights from previous festivals.

The good

Keira Knightley

Keira was a festival standout in 2011, looking young, fun and fresh with her sleek bob and lace Elie Saab frock.

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson (Evan Agostini/AP/PA)

Scarlett kept it clean and simple at the 2013 Don Jon premiere, opting for a little black dress, tidy updo and en elegant string of pearls.

Penelope Cruz

Penelope Cruz (Evan Agostini/AP/PA)

Penelope was the picture of elegance in a fitted white dress and twinkly gold earrings at the Ma Ma screening in 2015.

Elizabeth Olsen

Elizabeth Olsen (Richard Shotwell/AP/PA)

Elizabeth created a sense of drama on the red carpet at last year's event, when she stepped out in this fashion-forward look at the I Saw The Light premiere.

Rosamund Pike

Rosamund Pike (Chris Pizzello/AP/PA)

Rosamund showed she can do both red carpet AND pregnancy style when she chose this baby-doll dress covered in sparkles.

The actress, who was expecting her second child when she wore the dress at the festival in 2014, displayed just the hint of a baby bump as she walked the carpet for the Hector And The Search For Happiness premiere.

The bad...

Megan Fox

Megan Fox (Evan Agostini/AP/PA)

Normally stylish, Megan Fox had a bit of a Black Swan moment when she wore this skimpy frock to the 2009 event for her film Jennifer's Body.

Juliette Lewis

Juliette Lewis (Evan Agostini/AP/PA)

We're used to seeing a rock edge when it comes to singer and actress Juliette's style.

But this dress she wore in 2011 for the Hick premiere just looked like a mess.

Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton (Ian West/PA)

The look on the hotel heiress's face suggests she knew she had made a fashion faux pas.

Paris wore this scrappy ensemble to the 2008 festival for the premiere of Paris, Not France.

Tilda Swinton

Tilda Swinton (Carolyn Kaster/AP/PA)

Now, we know it's Tilda, and to be fair to her this was back in 2007 for the Michael Clayton premiere. We can also try to mitigate with the fact Tilda certainly has her own style.

But this dress? Really?
