Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles thank fans for 'changing our lives' as they celebrate One Direction's sixth anniversary

With news that Liam Payne had signed a solo record deal, there have been fears for the future of One Direction and their "hiatus".

But Louis Tomlinson made sure fans knew how appreciated their loyal support has been for the past six years as he sent a sweet message to celebrate the band's sixth birthday.

He said: "I just wanted to film a little message to say thank you because you guys are incredible.

"Your continued support is remarkable really and every single one of you had a hand in changing our lives and I hope you're as proud as we are."

Harry Styles sent an overwhelmed tweet to his 28.9 million followers.

It turns out this was even more important because he hasn't tweeted in, like, forever.

Niall Horan and Liam haven't tweeted yet, but Liam made sure fans knew how much he cared when he tried to assuage their fears that the band were breaking up permanently on Thursday.

Fans got #6YearsOfOneDirection trending on Twitter on Saturday, and the tributes are quite something to behold.

There were some phenomenal throwback pictures (with Zayn, of course)

And this incredible gif.

Mostly fans were overcome with appreciation for the band.

Maybe Simon Cowell should get the biggest thank you today.
