Alison King to return to the cobbles for new Coronation Street tour

Coronation Street fans will be able to immerse themselves in the world of Weatherfield later this year as a new UK tour has been announced.

The ITV soap's iconic set, cobbles, props and memorabilia will initially take up residency in Glasgow from August 27 until January 1 before a proposed move to Belfast.

Alison King, 43, who previously played Carla Connor on the soap, will act as a "virtual reality" tour guide.

The actress will welcome visitors into the purpose-built inflatable snowdome inside which the attraction will be housed, before they move on to get a behind-the-scenes look at the long-running programme.

The event will serve as a visit down memory lane for Coronation Street fans, while also allowing them to view well-known TV establishments such as Roy's Rolls and The Kabin.

Coronation Street mainstay the Rovers Return pub is to have its own instalment on the makeshift set, where guests can take a souvenir picture.

Coronation Street On Tour has been commissioned following the previous event in Manchester, which welcomed nearly 1 million visitors in 18 months.

Alison departed the soap in May after 10 years playing the popular character.

During her time on the soap, Carla was involved in several dramatic story-lines, including developing a gambling addiction and battling alcoholism.

Her exit saw Carla leave for Devon after a failed attempt to run over sworn enemy Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford).
