Watch these waiters sprint through the West End balancing champagne bottles

Some of Soho's finest waiters swapped serving for sprinting as they took part in an annual race around the West End.

The short course, staged in stifling heat, was won by Charlie Brown from the Dean Street Townhouse.

The 28-year-old surged from the back of the 30-strong pack to cross the finish line in first place, with his tray and drinks bottle still intact.

Others, however, were unable to complete the task, which was evident from the sounds of shattering glass that accompanied the three-minute race.

Charlie, from east London, said: "Last year I came fifth with a sprained ankle, and I thought: 'this year I'm winning it'."

Charlie, who completed the course in a dark suit, white shirt and tie, said he would celebrate by returning to work for the end of his shift.
