Coronation Street's Jane Danson, who plays Leanne Battersby, has spoken about the forthcoming daddy of a storyline in which her character will discover she is pregnant.
Leanne had a one night stand, but viewers have no idea who did the dirty deed. She will tell her stepson Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) that she is pregnant before informing someone on the cobbles that he is about to be a father.
According to reports, the smart money's on Rovers Return landlord Steve McDonald, played by Simon Gregson.
But Leanne's old love Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) could also be the father. The two neighbours were previously married and they have had an on again and off again liaison for years.
Robert Preston (Tristan Gemmill), the ex-husband of Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford), may also be the guilty party. He had a fling with Carla Connor (Alison King) which wrecked Carla's marriage to Nick.
Talking about the baby plotline, Jane said: "I think it's safe to say she wishes it were under better circumstances. But a little bit of her is pleased, she's just worried about the mess it's going to cause."
Jane added: "There's a lot of mixed feelings because when it comes out who the father could be, it could cause a massive upheaval in both their lives."
Leanne has been a mother to Simon since her relationship with his father Peter (Chris Gascoyne), but she has not given birth to a child of her own.
In 2011, Leanne was told it would be difficult for her to conceive because of damage to one of her fallopian tubes following a miscarriage. This will give her an incentive to go through with the pregnancy.
Asked how the father will react to the news, Jane told ITV: "There's so much going on and her way of dealing with him is to say they can pretend this never happened and they don't even have to talk about it, but of course, that's never going to happen."
Jane continued: "She's quite strong and she thinks she can do this on her own, but she's not really thought it through."
The 37-year-old actress is happy about her character's condition. She said: "I was really chuffed for Leanne ... I was pleased that something weirdly is going right for her even though it's under the wrong circumstances."
How the father will convince Leanne to abandon one of the best chances she has for a baby of her own will heighten the drama.
An ITV spokeswoman told the Press Association that they do not comment on storylines.
