5 of Len Goodman's best Strictly moments

Len Goodman is leaving Strictly after 12 years as head judge.

As the panellist gets ready to bid the show farewell after the next series, we take a look at some of his best moments over the years.

Len in dance-off over Darcey Bussell

When Darcey Bussell joined in 2012, the Beeb released a promo showing Len and fellow judges Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli in a dance-off about taking to the floor with the ballerina.

Len slams Simon Cowell for stealing Alesha Dixon

Simon Cowell and Alesha Dixon

In 2012, Len blasted Simon Cowell for poaching Alesha Dixon for Britain's Got Talent.

He branded the media mogul's actions "spiteful" after Simon said his decision to take Alesha was "70-30 on the fact she was on Strictly and the fact I liked her".

Len told Radio 5 Live that he was "disappointed" in Simon if that was his motivation.

He said: "I would never knock the opposition and I think it is spiteful and mean if that is the case that Simon said 'I just want to be spiteful towards Strictly'.

"Because why would you want to do that? Why would you want to spoil millions of people's pleasures? It's not the right way to behave, so if that is the case - shame on you, Simon."

Len swears on air

In 2014 Len appeared to curse live on air, forcing Zoe Ball, who was presenting the show with him, to apologise.

The head judge seemed to mutter the f-word after expressing his delight at a performance by Blue star Simon Webbe and his professional partner Kristina Rihanoff.

Zoe told viewers: "I also would like to apologise. Len got a little bit carried away with the excitement of the dance and I'm very sorry for the bad language."

Len loses his temper with Giovanni Pernice

Len seemed to lose his rag with dancer Giovanni Pernice last year, after he and celebrity partner Georgia May Foote took to the dancefloor.

Giovanni appeared to shake his head as he listened to the critique and Len snapped: "All that shaking your head really gets on my wick so I'm going to tell you the truth. Too much posturing, posing and larking about. Two openings and one forward basic does not constitute a Rumba in my world!" Ouch!

Teaching Paul Hollywood to dance

Len's Strictly wisdom wasn't limited to the BBC show.

He has taken his tips to other forums, like Loose Women, where he gave Paul Hollywood a few tips.
