The Secret Life Of Pets knocks Finding Dory off the box office top spot


Finding Dory's reign at the top of the US box office has been brought to an end by another animal-themed animation.

Universal's The Secret Life Of Pets hit the summit after taking $104.4 million, replacing its Disney rival which spent three weeks at number one.

Comedians Kevin Hart and Louis CK voice characters in The Secret Life Of Pets, which cost $75 million to make.

The Legend Of Tarzan was at number two in its second weekend in cinemas, taking $21 million and bringing its gross to $81.8 million.

Finding Dory, the sequel to the 2003 hit film Finding Nemo, sank to third place with $20.8 million.

The weekend's other opener, the raunchy comedy Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates, was in fourth place after earning $16.6 million against a $33 million budget.

The Purge: Election Year completed the top five with $12.4 million in its second week.
