Zayn Malik has admitted that he's somewhat of a recluse in Hollywood, preferring to stay in "his own bubble".
The former One Direction singer recently cancelled his first live UK performance over anxiety which has "haunted" him for months and said avoiding the celebrity lifestyle kept him sane.
"I don't tend to go out much. I stick to my own bubble, as it is. Creatively and socially, I think, as I'm getting older, that's just the way I am," he told Dazed magazine.
"I'm just staying the way that I am. I think that's the best way to keep your sanity. You've got to hold on to what you are and not let things get to your head, because if you do, that's when everything comes crashing down terribly."
He released his album Mind Of Mine in March, exactly one year after he left the band.
He said that while in One Direction he "didn't feel good".
"I'm free at last," he added.
The album has been a huge success, reaching number one in the UK and US album charts.
One fan, he humbly revealed, is Taylor Swift, who told him so at girlfriend Gigi Hadid's house.
He said: "She said she thought I was cool and I kind of blushed a bit and didn't know how to take it."
Late singer Prince was on Zayn's list of heroes, and he said his metallic-sleeved outfit at the MET Gala was a nod to the singer's attitude.
"That was kind of what I was doing at the Met Ball... being fearless," he said.
