From an unknown to a chart-topping, Kanye West signed artist - it's been a busy year for Brooklyn native Desiigner.
Panda was one of 2015´s biggest tracks and, after being sampled on Kanye's The Life of Pablo, the hype carried over into this year. Now Desiigner has sat down for an interview with Genius to discuss growing up in Bed-Stuy, claims that his sound isn't "New York", and how he made it to this point.
The stand-out line from the interview has to be Desiigner explaining how getting shot changed his outlook: "I went from selling everything to saying, 'I ain't gonna sell that. Can't do it.' It wasn't working for me, so I was just like, 'Yo, I'm going to sell my talent.'"
And as for the negativity surrounding his breakout hit? "Even the diss tracks was enhancing Panda".
The next big challenge is proving he belongs with G.O.O.D. Music, something that will become apparent one way or the other when the label release their album Cruel Winter later this year.
