Susanna Reid denied she was engaged on Good Morning Britain after co-host Piers Moran spotted a ring on her engagement finger.
The pair were discussing a news item with Charlotte Hawkins that said you're more likely to survive a heart attack if you're married, when Piers began to probe the never-married TV presenter.
He said: "If you're genuinely single like Susanna you're at most risk of dying. Should she be looking to find a suitable partner to make sure she doesn't die?"
The 45-year-old hit back: "Can I just say, you don't know anything about my relationship status."
"Ooh! Is there something you want to share with us?" Piers replied.
Susanna laughed back: "No, Piers, that is not something I want to share on national television.
"Just to reassure viewers, I'm not actually engaged or married. I just happened to be wearing a ring on that finger."
Asked why she was slipping the chunky silver ring between her ring finger and the other hand, she claimed it was a "nervous tic" from sitting next to Piers.
Susanna split with long-term partner Dominic Cotton in 2014, with whom she has three sons, but has not revealed whether she is in a new relationship.
Piers, who is married to journalist Celia Walden, and Susanna are known by viewers for their friendly flirtation on the sofa.
