Stormzy wins prestigious breakthrough award at South Bank Sky Arts Awards


Stormzy has been honoured with a prestigious award at a ceremony which celebrates the best of British culture and achievement.

The MC was presented with The Times Breakthrough Award at the South Bank Sky Arts Awards at London's Savoy Hotel on Sunday.

Stormzy shared his experience through Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat.

As shown in this video, Stormzy stood up and said: "This means a lot to be amongst so many influential, incredible, amazing people. I don't know how I pulled it off but yeah - thank you so much."

Before this, he also apologised for standing up to accept his award before his name had even been called out.

He then wrote on Twitter: "Honoured to have won the prestigious @thetimes South Bank Breakthrough Award! Thank you to those that voted."

Now celebrating its 20th anniversary, the South Bank Sky Arts Awards were hosted by Lord Melvyn Bragg, and will broadcast on Sky Arts on Wednesday June 8.

Among the other winners were BBC One's Doctor Foster for TV drama and Channel 4´s Catastrophe for Comedy.
