Sir Anthony Hopkins joins Mark Wahlberg in Transformers: The Last Knight


Sir Anthony Hopkins will feature in the cast for the fifth Transformers movie which will be directed by Michael Bay. US actor Mark Wahlberg is reprising the role of Cade Yeager.

The coup of landing the award-winning star, who won an Oscar for his unforgettable portrayal of Dr Hannibal Lecter in Silence Of The Lambs, was revealed on Twitter via the official Transformers page.

The message posted read: "The man, the legend - help us welcome Sir Anthony Hopkins to the #transformers Universe."

The 78-year-old's association with Lecter continued with the sequel Hannibal and the prequel Red Dragon.

His role in Transformers: The Last Knight has not been revealed as yet, but Anthony is no stranger to big-budget blockbusters. Fans will recall his portrayal of Odin in Marvel's Thor: The Dark World.

However, he is best known for his stage work and for taking on a variety of challenging roles in films such as The Elephant Man, Magic, The Remains of the Day, Amistad and Nixon.

Born in Wales, Sir Anthony was lauded for his role in BBC Two's The Dresser alongside Sir Ian McKellen.

Transformers: The Last Knight is due for release in 2017.
