Alison King explains why it is time to say goodbye to Weatherfield

Alison King has opened up about her decision to leave Corrie, saying she doesn't want to be "broken all the time".

The actress has played Carla Connor for 10 years - having originally planned to stay with the soap for just four years - and admitted that the long hours took their toll.

She told OK! magazine: "Carla is in everything, which is very flattering, but it never ends.

"You're doing 15-hour days, plus two hours of learning new scripts once you get home."

She went on: "To do that for a decade can break you, so I would rather not be broken all the time for the rest of my life.

"I also think Carla has done everything she can do for now."

Alison - whose final scenes revolve around her wedding to Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) - also explained that she wanted more time with her one-year-old daughter.

However, she admitted saying goodbye to the ITV soap has been tough.

She said: "I'm in an emotional bubble.

"Carla has been crying for five weeks (of filming) and my body thinks I've been through some trauma."
