Julia Roberts ignored the Cannes 'fashion code' and went barefoot on the red carpet

Julia Roberts decided to throw caution to the fashion wind - and ditch her heels on the Cannes red carpet for a bit.

The actress was at the star-studded screening of her new movie, Money Monster, which sees her star alongside her old showbiz pal, George Clooney.

She took to the red carpet in a gorgeous Armani Privé gown, but decided that heels were optional.

It was a brave move by the actress following reports from last year's Cannes Film Festival, where celebrities were reportedly turned away from red carpet events for not wearing high heels.

It's not the first time Julia's decided barefoot is better. At the 2014 Golden Globes she also didn't hesitate to get rid of her heels.

And in 2013 at the Bafta Britannia Awards in LA she did the same.

Then again, when you're Julia Roberts, you don't need heels to add some extra glamour.
